About This Item

London: J. Hudson, 1820. Very Good Minus. Very long, narrow hand-colored aquatint panorama depicting long procession of cavalry, horsemen, and coaches. Particularly noteworthy, and entertaining, is the capturing of the spectators, including children and dogs. Composed of seven sheets of woven paper joined together to make a continuous strip about 335 cm long, by 6.5 cm tall, housed in a cylindrical boxwood case with a pastedown of a small part of the panoramic scene. The strip is intended to be pulled through a slit on the case's side. Condition: the strip is now detached from the case's spool. The wood case is lacking its base cap. The pastedown on the case is darkened and scratched. The panorama proper somewhat soiled at its end, unsurprisingly, with a few minor closed tears at its edges.
