Antique copy of "Rhyme? and Reason?" by LEWIS CARROLL. Circa 1890's (there is no date of publication stated); American Publishers Corporation; New York. The book features 74 illustrations by Arthur Frost and Henry Holiday. From the "St. Nicholas Series for Boys and Girls." Contents include: Phantasmagoria; Echoes; A Sea Dirge; Ye Carpette Knyghte; Hiawatha's Photographing; Melancholetta; A Valentine; The Three Voices; Tema Con Variazioni; A Game of Fives; Poeta Fit, Non Nascitur; The Hunting of the Snark; Size and Tears; Atalanta in Camden-Town; The Lang Coortin'; Four Riddles; Fame's Penny-Trumpet.
Condition:
There are a few small stain spots at the right edge of the front cover; light soiling on the back cover and spine; tiny cloth tears at the outer corner tips of the front cover. Tight binding with no loose pages. There is a 1" split at the top of the hinge between the front end paper and pastedown. There is a 3" split at the bottom of the hinge between the rear end paper and pastedown. (Despite the splits, both covers are firmly attached and are not shaky.) The pages are age-toned but clean with no writing, stains or foxing. Pages 201-206 are chipped at the outer edge and have small pieces of the page edge missing. Some pages between 161-196 have a small area at the outer edge with chipping to the outer page edge. Old inscription written in pencil on the front end paper. Small piece missing at the outer edge of the frontispiece.
