About This Item

(London): Millington, 1979. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First hardcover edition. Octavo. 252pp. Fine in fine dust jacket. Inscribed to her friend Marsha Elkins: "To Marsha Whose own paperback copy of this title is the sole reason it could get an English edition. Anne McCaffrey Birmingham, March 29, 1979." Also laid it is a Autograph Letter Signed from McCaffrey that accompanied the return of Elkins' paperback (not included) and in which McCaffrey repeats her inscription: "...HERE, at long last, is YOUR copy of the Ring of Fear - without which there would have been no English edition. Thankfully yours, Anne McCaffrey." Masha was an early member of the Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society, where she met her first husband *Locus* editor Charles N. Brown. She moved to England with her second husband, the British fantasy artist Eddie Jones in the 1970s before later returning to America following their divorce to be an editor for DAW Books. A gothic romance that, as stated, was first published was a paperback in 1971. A wonderful association.
