London: Harrap, 1957. [Naval history] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (22 x 15cm), pp.304. With frontispiece illustration and full-page half tone plates, line-drawings within the text. Bound in publisher's blue cloth lettered in gilt to the spine, with illustrated dust-jacket priced at 21s. Contents clean, discreet ink ownership, jacket with some chips and tears. Very good. A history of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve form the late nineteenth century to the present day (1957), including accounts of wartime operations in the Mediterranean, the Second MTB flotilla at Hong Kong, minesweeping and mine disposal, and their role in the Fleet Air Arm. Photos include the Dieppe Raid (in which Cdr. Ian Fleming was an observer), landing craft, motor torpedo boat, commandos in France, Long-Range Desert Group liaison, submarines, etc. This copy is from the comprehensive collection assembled by Jon Gilbert (pencilled notes and signature within). His comprehensive guide to the works of Ian Fleming (2012) won the 16th Breslauer Prize for bibliography. See Gilbert, Appendix B.
