About This Item
Libraire Hachette, Paris, 1929; 1st Hachette edition; large 8vo, 252 pages; illustrated. Swiss pastor Johann David Wyss’s beloved adventure tale "The Swiss Family Robinson," for which the original manuscript was reportedly unpublishable until completed and edited by his son Johann Rudolf in 1912. Marvelously illustrated with seventy-five b&w engravings of exotic creatures and places, the majority full-page. Bound in red cloth with gilt titles and elaborate board decorations. Text in French. Very Good, clean, binding tight, sound, and square, corners sharp, no ownership signatures or any other markings of any kind. The impressed gilt of the spine titles has faded. A beautiful edition of an inspirational classic.
