About This Item
This is a charming antique children's story, "THE ROCKET BOOK" by Peter Newell. 1912 1st edition; Harper & Brothers; New York. Nicely illustrated by Newell with full-page drawings in color on every other page. Illustrated title page. Every page has an actual hole at the center, which is incorporated into the illustration. From a review: "Long before Richard Scarry or Dr. Seuss, an American artist delighted a generation of children and their parents with hilarious, topsy-turvy illustrations and slightly subversive tales told in rhyme. This was illustrator/author Peter Newell. Originally published in 1912, The Rocket Book remains as profoundly enjoyable and incredibly popular as ever. This classic work will delight readers of all ages with the story of how a rocket launched from the basement floor of an apartment building and how it interrupts the day."
Condition:
Light soiling to the cover; there are a few pen lines at the top of the front cover below the word "ROCKET"; some light stains on the back cover. Cloth tears at the top and bottom edges of the spine, and at the cover corners. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Heavy foxing to the front end paper and pastedown. Occasional tears to about a dozen or so random pages (the largest tear being 1"). Occasional stains and smudges to the pages. Overall the book is in Fair condition.
