Octavo, viii, 688pp. Brown boards, title stamped in gilt on spine. Wear to tips of spine, otherwise a fine example. In the publisher's dust jacket, light shelf wear, bright illustrations. Inscribed on the front free endpaper: "May 14, 1980 / For Stephen H. Sachs, Attorney General for the State of Maryland - warm wishes to you and your family from my brother George and me and the whole Roots family of Kunta Kinte! Sincerely, Alex Haley." This copy is inscribed to Stephen H. Sachs, Attorney General of Maryland from 1979-1987.
Synopsis
Tracing his ancestry through six generations - slaves and freedmen, farmers and blacksmiths, lawyers and architects - back to Africa, Alex Haley discovered a sixteen-year-old youth, Kunta Kinte. It was this young man, who had been torn from his homeland and in torment and anguish brought to the slave markets of the New World, who held the key to Haley's deep and distant past. Originally published: Garden City, N.Y. : Doubleday, 1976.
