London : T. Bensley, 1807. Cloth. Good. 11.5" by 9". None. Francis Hodgson's translation of the satirical poems of Roman poet, Juvenal. The Satires are a collection of satirical poems by the Latin author Juvenal written in the late 1st and early 2nd centuries AD. Francis Hodgson (1781 1852), (also known as Frank Hodgson in correspondence) was a reforming Provost of Eton, educator, cleric, writer of verse, and friend of Byron. He was author of, among others, a translation of Juvenal; Lady Jane Grey, with Miscellaneous Poems in English and Latin (1809); and Sir Edgar, a Tale, in two Cantos (1810). In a green cloth binding. Extenally, generally smart, with just a few marks and some slight bumping. Institutional lettering to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Hinges have been reinforced with cloth tape. Institutional stamping and bookplate to front pastedown, endpaper, and title page. Pages are bright, though with some scattered spotting (heavier to first and last few pages, as usual). Good
