Two books by German theologian Heinrich Ernst Ferdinand Guericke (1803 - 1878) bound in one volume: 'De Schola Quae Alexandriae Floruit Catechetica,' 1824 first edition E. Libraria Ed. Antonii (Halle, Germany), 119pp. plus 'Corrigenda' page, together with 'De Scholae Alexandrinae Catecheticae Theologia,' 1825 first edition Typis Gebaueriis (Halle, Germany), 84pp., 4 7/8 x 7 7/8 inches tall, handsomely bound by renowned London binder Sangorski and Sutcliffe (signed by binder on top of interior front free-endpaper) in green cloth with gilt lettering to spine. Edgewear to covers and bumping to lower tips, with residue from a removed piece of tape across the spine. Bookplate of renowned 20th century book collector Howard Lehman Goodhart to front pastedown. Notes in pencil to front free-endpaper (including notation that these works were 'originally presented as a thesis at the Academia Fridericiana at Halle'). Otherwise, very good to near fine copies of these works. ~FFF~ The Catechetical School of Alexandria was a school of Christian theologians and priests (also known as the Didascalium) who were influential in many of the early theological controversies of the Christian church. According to Jerome the school was founded by Mark the Apostle. Other theologians connected to the school include Clement of Alexandria, Origen, Gregory Thaumaturgus and Heraclas.
