About This Item

London; New York; Toronto: Hodder and Stoughton, 1911. Cloth. Very Good. 11" by 8". Hugh Thomson. A handsome copy of this work by Richard Brinsley Sheridan, profusely illustrated with numerous plates throughout. A theatrical work by Richard Brinsley Sheridan. Undated, dated using Copac. Sheridan was a 18th century writer and former owner of the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. 'The School for Scandal' was an incredibly well received when it was first performed in 1777. This particular volume has been illustrated by Hugh Thomson. Thomson was Irish born illustrator whose work notably was featured in the novels of Jane Austen and Charles Dickens, among many others. Collated complete, with 25 tipped-in plates. With the previous owners bookplate to the front pastedown of 'Reginald F. C. Dare'. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally generally smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine, with patches of rubbing to the extremities. Light fading to the spine, with patches of rubbing to the front and rear joints. Light spots to the top edge and also to the fore edge. Bookplate to the front pastedown, alongside an ink inscription. Heavy offsetting to the front and rear endpapers. The front hinge is strained. Internally firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with the occasional spot. Very Good
