(1st US) Large, heavy book, red cloth spine and sides, lavender boards, gilt lettering near fine on spine, spine slightly sunken and lightly askew, 436 lightly browned heavy pages plus a hand-written letter attached to final end paper, check marks in ink in margins of many pages, brief review from "The Retired Officer, June 1989" glued to reverse of first front end paper. DJ silver background beneath mylar, praise on top front from John Le Carre, image of eyes on front, praise on back from John Kenneth Galbraith, Edward Jay Epstein, Harrison E. Salisbury, and more. DJ has tiny tear but badly creased at top back edge. Contents of letter available on request: believed to be on letterhead of CIA officer, concerning the "fifth" man in the Kim Philby Cambridge spy group. Near Very Good DJ/Near Very Fine book.
