Cloth-backed illustrated boards. 6 1/2" x 10". A collection of 49er R. R. Taylor's well-written letters to his wife concerning his journey from Massachusetts in 1849 to San Francisco and the California gold fields. Largely unsuccessful in mining, he clerked at a Mormon Island tent store for awhile before returning to San Francisco. Taylor's descriptions of life in San Francisco are well worth reading.
