Early editions of these scarce mid-twentieth-century Westerns, all in their original pictorial paperback binding by T.A. and E. Pemberton. A delightful four volume collection of scarce mid-twentieth-century Westerns, in their original pictorial paperback bindings by T.A. and E. Pemberton . All early editions of these works. Included in this set are the following novels:Come A-Smokin' by Nelson C. Nye, published by T.A. and E. Pemberton in 1949 (first published in 1940). The Six-Gun Syndicate by Norman A. Fox, published by T.A. and E. Pemberton in 1949 (first published in 1942). Round-Up at Tiger Gap by J.E. Grinstead, published by T.A. and E. Pemberton in 1948 (first published in 1940). Hair-Trigger Realm by Glen Colt, published by T.A. and E. Pemberton in 1948 (first published in 1940). Western fiction is a genre defined by its setting: in the American Old West frontier. The first ever Western novel is often considered to be The Virginian by Owen Wister, published in 1902. From this point on, Westerns, especially Western short stories, gained popularity, especially through the new medium of pulp magazines. The 1940s saw an influx of seminal Western novels, including The Ox-Bow Incident by Walter van Tilburg Clark (1940) and The Big Sky by A.B. Guthrie Jr. (1947), which lead to an increased popularity in the genre. In the publisher's original pictorial paperback bindings. Externally, bright, with some shelf wear and edgewear, light staining and a few tidemarks to the rears of the paperback bindings, and light creasing to the spines. Internally, binding is separating from the spine to 'Hair-Trigger Realm'. Remaining binding is firm. Some tidemarks to the title pages of 'The Six-Gun Syndicate' and 'Come A-Smokin'. Pages are lightly age-toned with the odd spot, but are otherwise clean. Good
