About This Item

London: Collins, 1975. Ex library copy with paper label inside front board and another one on f/ep, ink stamps on f/ep, title page and rev, and on top and bottom edge of pages. Minor creasing to edges of unclipped dustwrapper, minor bumping to spine ends and corners of green boards, otherwise a good clean tight copy of this hard-cover book. Six re-tellings by the author, intended for older children (but maybe the language might still be a bit difficult for some) of Lays (or Lais) originally written by Marie de France in the twelfth century. The stories are "The Shadow of the Hawk" (original title was "Yonec"), "Launfal" (Lanval), "The Nightingale" (Laustic), "The Werewolf" (Bisclavret), "The Ash Tree" (Le Fresne), and "The White Doe" (Guigemar). 153pp, some b&w drawings.. Hard Cover. Good/Good. Illus. by Dalton, Anne. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Ex-Library.
