London: Hodder and Stoughton, 1973. 224 pp, 8" H. "The announcement of Paul Dexter's promotion to Commander in Her Majesty's Royal Navy reached him on the first day of January 1934 after the dreariest Christmas he'd every experienced. The trouble was that after they'd given him the appointment the Navy didn't seem to be able to find anything for him to do. Eventually they sent him on a course, and it was then that he saved the life of a Rear-Admiral when their plane crashed into the sea. If he'd left him to drown life might subsequently have been easier; as it was, when he was fully recovered, young Dexter found himself posted to Gibraltar under the Rear-Admiral's command. Somebody should have warned him about Gibraltar." A series of tiny dents at top of free front endpaper (offset from front pastedown), light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, small bump at bottom corners of boards. Dust jacket has light edge wear wrinkling, bump at bottom of flap-folds, very light soiling and a faint stain on rear panel, a few tiny dents on hinges.. First Edition. Hard Cover.
