Occasional mild foxing, hinges fine, head and foot of spine fine, cloth spine slightly darkened, spotting to DJ, mild chipping to upper and lowered edges, overall a VERY GOOD copy.

AUTHOR AUTOGRAPH EDITION ADDITIONALLY SIGNED BY NINETEEN ARTISTS. 20 vols., 8-3/4" x 6-1/4", illustrated, limited to 350 numbered copies which this is number 237, bound in fine 3/4 red morocco, ribbed gilt decorated spines, top edges gilt. Hinges fine, head and foot of spines fine, minor damp stain to lower corner of a few plates otherwise internally clean and bright, a VERY GOOD set. FIRST EDITION SECOND ISSUE. 1 vol., 6-5/8" x 4-7/16", chapter heading reading "Stave One", illustrated with 4 hand colored engraved plates by John Leech and 4 black and white illustrations by W.J. Linton, internally clean and bright, mild offsetting to color plates. Bound in the original straight grained rose colored cloth, gilt tile and wreath to spine and front cover, front cover has a perfect 'D' in 'Dickens', yellow pastedowns and endpapers, all edges gilt, front hinge expertly repaired, head of spine renewed, general handling, uneven stain to rear cover, overall still a GOOD+ copy. Regarded as Dicken's most widely read novel and considered to be "the greatest Christmas book ever written in any language" (Eckel p. 116) selling more than 6000 copies in the few days leading up to Christmas. NEW EDITION. 10 vols., 8-3/8" x 5-3/4", illustrated, bound in full contemporary speckled calf, covers ruled in blind, expertly rebacked at some earlier date, gilt decorated spines, gilt lettered maroon and brown morocco spine labels. Minor foxing to first and last leaves, inner and outer hinges fine, head and foot of spines fine, a VERY GOOD set.

London: Macmillan & Co., Ltd., 1896 / 1895, 1896. THE JUNGLE BOOK SIGNED WITH A 4 LINE QUOTE. 2 vols., Fourth & Second Editions, 7-1/2" x 5-3/8", Kipling crossed out his name and signed above, an additional 4 line quote to the title-page which reads "Now, these are the laws of the Jungle, and many & mighty are they: But the head & the heart of the Law and the haunch and hump is - Obey!", illustrated by J. Lockwood Kipling & W. H. Drake. Bound in the publisher's original gilt stamped blue cloth, all edges gilt. General handling, minor rubbing to head and foot of spines and back corners, bookplate to front endpaper of the Second Jungle Book, overall GOOD+ copies.

London: Richard Bentley, 1839, 1839. THIRD EDITION, FOURTH PRINTING, of the first revised edition of Shelley's masterpiece and the last to contain an illustration with the first printing of the engraved frontis and additional engraved title-page dated 1831. The frontis depicting the creature coming to life. Bound in the publisher's original blind stamped straight grained brown/maroon cloth, engraved bookplate of Arnold Henry Robson to front pastedown. Spine expertly relined, inner hinges strengthened, spine and cover edges slightly sunned, text clean and bright, some minor foxing or offsetting to the engraved frontis and title-page, overall still a GOOD copy of a book becoming increasingly difficult to find. According to RBH only 4 copies of this printing have appeared at auction in the last 25 years. SECOND EDITION. 1 vol., 7-1/2" x 5-3/8", 545pp., complete with the half-title, bound in full blue/gray morocco, raised bands, gilt lettered and decorated spine, repeating onlay whales along the edge of both covers and spine, marbled pastedowns and endpapers, text uncut as issued, housed in a geometric chevron stitched fabric clamshell slipcase, two triangle gilt lettered spine labels, bound by Jamie Kamph. Textblock internally clean and bright, A FINE COPY IN A DESIGNER BINDING. The true first edition was published by Harper and Brothers in 1851. This second edition was published in an edition of 1,787 copies. The United States Book Company subsequently went out of business at the beginning of 1893. The next editions were printed in Boston by Dana Estes. RBH record only 1 coy ever appearing at auction. Queen Elizabeth I is shown here between two of her closest advisors: Lord High Treasurer Lord Burghley on the left, and Secretary of State Sir Francis Walsingham on the right. Queen Elizabeth came to the throne in 1558 and ruled until 1603. Her reign saw a sharp increase in the exploration of foreign lands.
