Awoki (1882-1911), also known as Aoki, studied under Japanese masters and and apparently never left Japan but achieved of fusion of East and West that won acclaim but not fortune. His work is collected by Japanese and Westerners, with two major works registered in Japan as Important Cultural Properties.
