About This Item
London and Paris: Fisher, Son & Co., 1839. Book. Illus. by map at end of volume 2, 64 full page plates and an engraved title. Fine. 3/4 Leather. 1st Edition. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. New binding of brown morocco spines and corners, with hand marbled boards, matching endpapers AND matching page edges. Raised bands and bright gilt titles on the spines. A beautiful gift set that looks like it was just puolished. Each plate has its tissue guard. Surprisingly, no foxing, no browning, no stains, no prior owner marks. Each plate, from Gibralter to Sicily and Italy and Greece and Tunisia to Rhodes , has a 3 or 4 page essay by the impressive Rev. Wright. No date, but known to have been published in 1829 -`840. Most copies seem to have a plate or two missing. .
