Berkeley: The Sather Gate Book Shop, 1930. First Edition. (vii) 108 pages. Blue cloth with gilt titling. 5 1/4" x 7 3/4". A book of poetry including 42 sonnets, many dealing with California subjects. Author Charles S. Greene (1856-1930) was a poet and Editor of The Overland Monthly from 1887 to 1899. Several of the poems in ths volume appeared first in the Overland Monthly. He was the Librarian for the City of Oakland from 1899 to 1926. Greene was a champion of art in public spaces and installed murals by Marion Pope Holden and Arthur Mathews in the Oakland Library. Some of these are now in the Oakland Museum. This book of poetry was published in the year of Greene's death. A Fine copy and now in a custom clear mylar protective jacket.
