Author Charles S. Greene (1856-1930) was a poet and Editor of The Overland Monthly from 1887 to 1899. Several of the poems in ths volume appeared first in the Overland Monthly. He was the Librarian for the City of Oakland from 1899 to 1926. Greene was a champion of art in public spaces and installed murals by Marion Pope Holden and Arthur Mathews in the Oakland Library. New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company, 1934. First Edition, Stated. Cloth. Near Fine/Very Good. (xxviii) 168 pp. Illustrated dust jacket. 5 1/2" x 8 1/4". Cloth with paper spine label. A posthumous collection of works by Ernest Walsh. With a biographical memoir by Scottish poet and artist Edith Moorhead, who became Walsh's patron. An American born in Detroit, Walsh joined the American Air Service at the outbreak of World War I, but was seriously injured when his plane crashed while Walsh was in training. After four years in a military hospital, Walsh travelled to Paris. He wrote poetry and co-founded This Quarter, a literary magazine which published Ernest Hemingway, Kay Boyle, Ezra Pound, Gertrude Stein and Walsh. among others. He died prematurly in 1926, never having regained good health since his crash. In 1927, Kay Boyle gave birth to a daughter fathered by Ernest Walsh.
