About This Item

The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien Hardcover First Edition - First Printing - First State. London: Allen & Unwin UK, 1977. (Also released in the US by Houghton Mifflin) No cover price, indicating the export market state which apparently was released prior to all other editions. Includes a map opposite page 121 and map on the back. Also includes several pages of genealogies. Also there are several first state/first printing errors: On page 330, missing the period after Feanor near the top, and page 352, "and" is italicized between "Lord of the Waters" and "King of the Sea" towards the bottom.

Fine in Fine Dust Jacket. A superb copy, nearly perfect in conceivable facet: corners straight, boards clean, pages white and clean. Only shortcomings are a tiny hint of edge-wear to the jacket, top and bottom spine, nearly unnoticeable else a nearly perfect copy.
Edition Information: "The Lord of the Rings", essentially one long novel issued in three parts, was a kind of sequel to "The Hobbit" (1937). It was first published in the US and UK in 1955-6. First printing copies of the first UK edition can run upwards of $25,000 and the first US edition upwards of $12,000. The Silmarillion was published posthumously as another prequel to the Lord of the Rings. $9.50 shipping and confirmation in the U.S. only via priority mail flat-rate padded mailer (3-5 days) or $15.00 priority mail box (3-5 days). Make sure your current address is on and/or Paypal! International post will be $40, except Australia which will be $95 express priority mail only.

IMPORTANT NOTE: All sales are generally FINAL. I do NOT accept returns because of buyer's remorse, i.e. "I changed my mind", "it was a gift but the recipient already had it", "I found the same book at a better price" or some tiny discrepancy, "I found a tiny mark on the blank back end paper". I am not selling new items to compete with other retailers. Returns are only accepted because of discrepancies regarding edition and/or condition of which I try to be very thorough in researching the edition/printing as well as describing ALL condition issues, both of which are accurate 99.99% of the time. In other words I rarely miss anything. So make sure you're 100% positive you desire one of my items before making a purchase.

Synopsis

The Silmarillion narrates the complexity of Middle-earth through a collection of J.R.R Tolkein’s 5 mythopoeic works, illustrating an extensive history and lore in relation to his work, T he Hobbit . The collection was originally published as individual works, but was later rejected due to incompleteness. In 1977  The Silmarillion was edited and published posthumously by Tolkien's son Christopher, with assistance from Guy Gavriel Kay, who later became a noted fantasy writer.
