FOLIO, First edition, 340 x 220 mm.. Engraved title vignettes, engraved frontispiece in Volume I, 87 engraved plates. Marbledpaper over boards, some wear and losses; internally text leaves 845-848 present but detached form textblock and thumbed and possibly supplied; some usual toning, light foxing, some thumbing, but generally an acceptable copy of a very visually interesting work that advanced medical science thoughts its broad accessibility. FIRST EDITION.

Perhaps the single greatest compendium of 17th century medical knowledge. The intent of the of Bibliotheca anatomica was to compile the most important treatises relating to anatomy published since the mid-sixteenth century. It succeeds in reprinting the works of Harvey, Lower, Malpighi, Swammerdam, Vieussens, and Willis, among others and making them accessible to the widest audience, A dissection theater is splendidly portrayed on the title page with numerous skeletons in the recesses and a working reference library in the far background.
