Modest chipping at end of backstrip and the cover corners show some wear. Minor browning to contents around page edges. Tear at bottom of one leaf (pp. 191/192) repaired with acid free paper mending tape (partial loss of one letter). SIGNED and initialed by Braithwaite on half-title ("E.R. Braithwaite Sincerely yours. Remembering a very pleasant occasion Dec. 15th, 1960 ERB"). Eustace Edward Ricardo Braithwaite was born to educated parents in British Guiana and earned his Bachelor's degree at City College of New York. This book of fictionalized autobiography about his experiences while teaching at a school in London's East End was made into a popular movie starring Sidney Poitier.
