London: T. Werner Laurie, Ltd, 1920. Cloth. Good. 7.5" by 5". None. An early edition of this short story collection from popular Victorian writer H. Rider Haggard. First edition. T. Werner publishing information pasted over the original J. Arrowsmith details to the title page. A collection of short stories, including: 'Magepa the Buck', 'The Blue Curtains', 'Little Flower', 'Only a Dream', and 'Barbara Who Came Back'. The title story was serialized in Strand Magazine, between December 1912 and February 1913. Written by Sir Henry Rider Haggard, an English writer of adventure fiction romances set in exotic locations and a pioneer of the lost world literary genre. With original first edition misprints: p. 48, line 23 - "truck" should be "struck". p. 58, line 26 - "Man-kau-ra" should be "Men-kau-ra". As cited in A Bibliography of the Works of Sir Henry Rider Haggard 1856-1925 by J. E. Scott. In the original full blue cloth binding. Externally, smart with rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine with the odd small mark to the boards. Small splits to the cloth at the head and tail of the spine resulting in minor loss. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light age toning to the extremities. Contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper dated 1927. Good
