About This Item

London: Macmillan, 2003. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. (London: Macmillan Children's Books 2003). First UK Edition. 4to., Publisher's glazed pictorial boards in matching dustwrapper. 32 pages. ISBN: 0 333 98223 1. Printing number line 1 3 5 7 9 8 6 4 2. The book itself is in VG++ condition. No inscriptions. The dustwrapper is VG indeed with a closed tear (repaired to the verso with a slither of filmoplast) and associated crease to the bottom edge of the front panel and with minor, shallow loss at the head of the spine and the merest hint of wear to the corners. The sixth book by the winning combination of Julia Donaldson and Illustrator Axel Scheffler. One tiny snail longs to see the world and hitches a lift on the tail of a whale. Together they go on an amazing journey, past icebergs and volcanoes, sharks and penguins, and the little snail feels so small in the vastness of the world. But when disaster strikes and the whale is beached in a bay, it's the tiny snail who saves the day. Another winner from the creator of The Gruffalo. The basis for the 2019 BBC animated production narrated by Dame Diana Rigg and starring Sally Hawkins (as the voice of the snail) and Rob Brydon (as the voice of the whale). Beautifully narrated, crisp and colourful animation, wonderful soundtrack and a great story of friendship and adventure makes for a rewarding watch (IMDb user review). A children's story with enough heart to be enjoyed by adults. Photographs/scans available upon request.

Synopsis

When a tiny snail meets a humpback whale, the two travel together to far-off lands. It's a dream come true for the snail, who has never left home before. But when the whale swims too close to shore, will the snail be able to save her new friend?
