About This Item

New York: Coward-McCann, Inc, 1931. Very good in very good minus dust jacket.. Inscribed first edition of this Gág classic featuring two mice, a knitting ball, and a quest for cheese. Wanda Gág was the eldest daughter of a pair of German immigrant artists, and "was one of the great pioneering printmakers and illustrators of the first half of the twentieth century" (Philadelphia Museum of Art). Gág began to illustrate children's books at the suggestion of Coward-McCann's Ernestine Evans, and the move paid off: Gág earned two Newbery Honors and two Caldecott Honors in addition to various other accolades. SNIPPY AND SNAPPY was her third children's book. 6.5'' x 9.5''. Original color pictorial boards. Original unclipped (no price) color pictorial dust jacket. Red endpapers of mice. Illustrated in black and white. [48] pages. Inscribed by Gág to verso of front flyleaf. Jacket with stain to rear panel, some edgewear with light chipping to spine ends, two tiny tape repairs to verso. Binding with small area of soil to head of spine, mild edgewear; careful glue repair to rear joint. Tight.
