About This Item

University of Chicago Press [1944]. Hard Cover. xii, 412 p., index; 24 cm. Based on his 1931 German publication, this English version was written while Wach was on the Brown University faculty. He used methods of the social sciences to better understand religious thought. Developing the field known as Sociology of Religion, he maintained that the founder of a new religion experienced a revelation illuminating the way the world worked. From the library of Prof. Vincent Tomas, Brown University Department of Philosophy. WWII government property stamp over which Brown University put its own stamp; Tomas adds his date of May 1, 1946, just after his return to Brown from military service to ensure that no more Wachs would be persecuted.
