When Grandpa asks Selene if she knows that the moon waxes and wanes, Selene shows that she does by describing her inventive way of remembering the different phases of the moon.

Beginning with Hiding Moon (new) which hides like she sometimes does, she continues to watch the gradual waxing of the moon and compares each phase to a familiar object. Soon it's a Boat Moon (crescent) when it's just a silver like Grandpapa's dory boat. As nights pass, it turns into a Basket Moon (half), like mama's knitting basket. When it grows even rounder and chubbier, like Baby Nico's cheeks, it becomes Cheeky Moon (two-thirds). And when it's as full and round as a piece of pirates silver, it's a Treasure Moon (full).

Included an informational spread that clearly shows and explains the phases of the moon.
