From the Introduction: "Nearly all the poems in this collection were written on the banks of the Musconetcong River adjoining Stephens State Park not far from Hackettstown. The poems deal with people and places of northern New Jersey, and mostly those of four contiguous counties, Morris, Warren, Sussex and Hunterdon, the world of my youth and my mature years, and of three generations of forebears. Although born in Harrison, New Jersey, most of my youth was spent in Oxford, in Warren County... Most vivid in memory was blasting time at the Oxford Furnace, especially the midnight cast... Our hills, from the domesticated Watchungs to the wilder Kittatinnys... Our mountain streams... the Pequest and feeders of the Raritan." Includes a reprint of a poem based on a real incident of the American Revolution, The Ballad of John Castner (previously published in 1940 and 1947). Original pictorial wraps . First Edition, Thus. Softcover. Near Fine condition. Illus. by Zoll, Howard S. . 160pp. Great Packaging, Fast Shipping.

About About Books

About Books (Genny and Michael Winne, proprietors, formerly of Parsippany, New Jersey) has been selling rare and OP books since 1985. Besides book fairs and mail-order catalogues, long-time collectors and dealers will remember our lengthy For Sale ads in the Antiquarian Bookman and similar magazines. Our inventory of over 40,000 volumes is especially strong in the specialties listed, but contains fine books in a variety of other fields as well. Because most of our books are stored in protective boxes, rather than on shelves, they cannot be viewed as a whole. If you wish to visit us to examine specific titles, please provide 24 hours notice and we will make them available for your inspection. Phone calls to (702) 750-2722 are welcome, but please, only between the hours of 8am and 10pm (west coast time).
