Minor chips to crown and foot, corners lightly rubbed. Printed dust jacket, clipped; edges and panels show some restoration, 5cm area of loss to upper edge of front panel, smaller open tear to crown, some soiling to panels. Pictoral frontis; 8 B/W plates from photographs, further figures in text. A tight copy; interior is clean and bright. very good Study of the role of sorcery and black magic in the West Pacific society of Dobu. The author lived amongst the natives for an extended period and was eventually intiated into the magical beliefs of the society. The locals believed he was the returned spirit of a dead man, due to his understanding of their language and customs. Scarce in jacket. 1932
