About This Item
London: Richard Bentley, 1852. Leather. Very Good. 7" by 6.5". Not Stated. A smartly bound, second edition copy of this reflective work regarding the English countryside and the recreational activity of fishing. With lovely gilt detailing of fish to the spine. Binder's stamp to the verso of front endpaper, 'W Roach Co New York'. Illustrated, with a frontispiece and six plates. With the bookplate of Arthur Howard Thompson to the front pastedown. Written by John Yonge Akerman, the English antiquarian who specialised with numismatics. A lovely work, which inspired many who had 'never in their lives cast a fly' (preface). This work is set over the course of six days, with extended notes to the rear. In a half morocco binding with paper covered boards. Externally, generally smart with light rubbing to the joints and to the extremities. Frontispiece is detached but present. Internally, firmly bound. Creases to the edges of pages 5-13. Pages are generally bright with just the odd spots. Very Good
