New York: J. & J. Harper, 1828. First Edition. Hardcover. Good+. 8vo. Pp. 206 followed by pp. 2 of publisher's advertising. Frontis. engraved portrait. Illustrated with five additional plates, one of which is hand-colored. With appendix. Half polished calf over black pebbled cloth, gilt titles and rules on the spine, sprinkled edges. Corners bumped and edges rubbed, chipped bottom corner of pp. 37-40, moderate foxing, front hinge starting. Two bookplates, one being that of George Tweney, noted Seattle bibliographer. Withal, a sturdy, presentable copy. A scarce and interesting, even if discredited, exploitation of the high interest in James Fenimore Cooper's pioneering novel.
