Near Fine/No dust jacket. 8vo. xvii, 378pp., [xxv, publisher's ads] complete with 33 plates including frontis portrait of Stanley, folding colored map (tear) showing the route in red, index., original brown pictorial gilt cloth, gilt spine title lettering. Bright clean copy. Travels across central Africa by the foremost African explorer. The American edition had only 12 illustrations on 8 plates and was printed on poor quality paper. EX-lb (19th century). Library sticker on front endpaper. Small numerical labe on middle of spine. Very handsome copy. Tear on attached fold-out map. two loose plates.
