About This Item
Boston: Charles W. Homeyer & Co., 1927. First English Edition . Sheet Music. Fair. 9" x 12. C.W.H. 299 (for medium voice - preceding the 1929 Oliver Ditson high-voice edition) - a Fair condition vintage score, along with a complimentary new photocopy. From Cui's 1899 cycle of 25 Pushkin songs, this is a beautiful, sensitive setting of the Pushkin poem, which depicts the statue of a woman beside a stream [an actual statue on the grounds of the Winter Palace], mourning her broken urn, as from the urn the water miraculously flows on. In the key of Db-Major, its range is from Db above middle C to Eb a 9th above. The text here (not in Russian) is given in French (unattributed) and English (translated by A. M. von Blomberg. Cover page (catalogue) and 2 score pages. CONDITION: The antique original is substantially torn, chipped, and brittle. Though I have repaired it with archival tape, I do not recommend using it for rehearsal or performance. Therefore, I've made and included a Fine photocopy for practical use. This enchanting vocal rarity is now in a clear, protective polypropylene bag with archival backing board. NOTE: multiple score orders, depending on weight, may qualify for a generous shipping charge reduction.
