About This Item

Chicago: Donohue, Henneberry, and Co. Gone are the days, we hope, that women had to use men's names in order to get their works published and then, hopefully purchased. Olive Schreiner writing as "Ralph Iron" presents here a fascinating view of South African farm life, with all the explosive elements of European imperialism and prejudice toward the native population intact, particularly the Boers' less than sympathetic attitudes. Although the dedication page is dated June, 1983, there is no indication of the actual publication date for this volume. The book is in Very Good+ or Near-Fine condition. A small volume, measuring 4 1/4 by 6 inches, this novel is noteworthy for its clean and bright condition and its ornate Art Nouveau front panel and spine, with die stamped silver designs and borders against a pale gray-green woven cloth. (Click on photo.) It includes decorative endpapers. The text pages have no marks, tears, stains, or signatures of former owners. However, the pages do show some edge toning or browining around the edges. The binding is tight and secure. The novel includes 391 pages.. Hard Cover. Very Good+/No Dust Jacket. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.
