Very Good. 8vo, [6.5x4.5in]; xii, 240 pp., [2] advertisements, frontispiece, with tissue guard, and five illustrations; Dark green blind stamped covers with gilt lettering and design on spine, all edges trimmed; Some shelf wear to covers edges and corners with darkening of spine, corners bumped, joints splitting at top and bottom of spine, hinges cracked and holding, spine slightly cocked. Amelia Ann Blanford Edwards (1831-1892), an English author, artist and Egyptologist, was well known for her travel books and literary fiction and nonfiction works. She also wrote poetry, stories and articles for periodicals. Today she is best know for her work as an Egyptologist and founder of the Egypt Exploration Fund in 1882 (later the Egypt Exploration Society.

This book is one of several nonfiction history that Edwards wrote as a result of her travels through Europe. She became enthralled with the story of the Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes (1547-1616) and chose to write a more narrative book about the man and the interesting times he lived in.
