A charming first edition of this work of poetry by Austin Dobson, copiously illustrated by Hugh Thomson. Austin Dobson was an English poet, critic, and biographer renowned for his love and knowledge of the 18th century that inspired his critical studies and his own work, resulting in a 'graceful elegance' to his poetry. Hugh Thomson was an Irish Illustrator who produced works for the texts of authors such as Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, and J. M. Barrie, largely produced in his iconic pen-and-ink style. Throughout his lifetime, Thomson illustrated sixty-five books and contributed a large number of illustrations to magazines and other periodicals, an impressive output for any illustrator. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with attractive gilt detailing to the front board and spine. In a cloth binding with gilt detailing. Externally, generally smart. Slight rubbing and shelfwear and minor marks to rear board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Very Good Indeed

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
