About This Item
Moscow in Construction was an architectural and design journal published from 1924 to 1941. All issues quarto, generally 30.5x23 cm. Stroitel'stvo Moskvy is a significant document of soviet architecture and design for the era. Issues through the mid-1930s employed bold typographic experiments and page design. It also became a forum for urban planning, mass housing and monumental construction, in theory and practice, between leading architects, engineers and thinkers (e.g., Moisei Ginzburg, Anatoly Lunacharsky, Il'ia Golosov, Konstantin Mel'nikov). Eventually Soviet orthodoxy and Neoclassicism prevailed and constructivist graphics and design disappeared. Highlights noted for each number, with architects noted in parentheses. 1931-6 (June), 32 pp., has photocollage cover design by V. Lavrov and V. Popov, architects. Highlights include auditorium design by Iofan, VSO House by Movchan, a call to an all-electric city by Vizipian. Condition fine, but first and last page have 4 cm. bottom missing. Priced accordingly.
