J. C. Nimmo & Bain, 1884. 1st UK Edition . Hardcover. Good/NDAI (No Dust Jacket As Issued). 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Paul Avril. Original publisher's pinkish grey cloth covered boards with lightly rubbed gilt lettering to faded spine, red printed decoration to front, light edgewear, lightly bumped spine ends and corners, and moderate soil. Minor uneven sunning to boards also. Binding cracked in a few places, otherwise sound. Deckle-edged, gilt topped text block. Text clean. Interior mildly toned, save for a few pages which are almost uniformly toned several shades darker. Minor, scattered foxing and smudges of soil to interior, mostly near page edges. Pages are thick, handcrafted paper watermarked with overlapping "A" and "O". Profusely illustrated by Paul Avril on every page of text with highly detailed monochrome headpieces, borders, etc. Early gift inscription in ink to ffep. No bookplates, stickers or stamps. Not ex-library. Publisher's catalog bound in at rear, featuring several pages of titles for sale as well as ads for barristers' bookcases and other book supplies. A real delight for collectors of aesthetic movement period books and fashion books alike!
