About This Item

Hodder & Stoughton, New York. Edition Unstated. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. WYSS, JOHANN DAVID. Swiss Family Robinson, New York: Hodder & Stoughton, undated (early 1900s). Octavo, among numerous issues of this children's classic that first appeared in 1814 as The Family Robinson Crusoe, pp. xii, 431, (lacking a front blank), red cloth boards with gilt lettering on spine and upper panel, black stamped illustration on upper panel repeated in gilt on spine, 20 color plates. Illustrated by Thomas Heath Robinson, who worked on children's books in the early 1900s and was one of three brothers in the business. There is no way of telling whether this is a first edition of the T.H. Robinson illustrations, as the publisher's practices were haphazard in regard to edition identification, but this book is scarce. Condition of this book: Boards lightly worn, spine sunned a bit. Leaves clean and tight, hinges cracked, images fine. Size: Octavo (standard book size). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: 1-2 kilos. Category: Antiquarian & Rare; 1900-1920; Children.
