About This Item

New York, NY Van Nostrand Reinhold, 1968. Hardcover First Edition; later printing. Very Good+ in Good only DJ: The Book shows indications of careful use; just a touch of wear to extremities; the former owner's name at the top of the front free endpaper; the binding remains square and secure; the text is clean. The DJ shows fairly heavy wear to the extremities, with some loss to chipping and the corners and especially along the top of the rear panel, which also shows several short, closed tears; moderate rubbing; faint soiling; unclipped. Overall, remains structurally sound and tightly bound, showing minimal wear: a clean, sturdy, presentable working copy in a somewhat tatty DJ. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 4to. 120pp. First Edition; later printing. Hardback with DJ. This is a surprisingly sophisticated needlepoint book by old time movie star Sylvia Sidney. Tidbits of her career are interspersed with the story of her journey to becoming an advanced needlepointer. There are black and white photos and directions for various stitches and techniques. Color photos of her beloved pug dogs, the St. Francis of Assisi prayer, wonderful crab and frog pillows, and an intricate woodland scene will inspire. I came across this book in the early 1970's when I first became interested in needlepoint. At that time it was the only book on the market that showed original designs and the first of celebrity books on the subject as people were becoming interested in needlepoint once more. I have made a number of the designs and they are charming, and well depicted so that they are easy to use. I have returned again and again to this book. If you are a serious craftsman you will treasure it. Recommended for the author's insight into the needlepoint process and for its historical value.
