About This Item

Garden City, New York: Doubleday & Company, Inc., 1987. A clean, tight, and unmarked copy. The Dust Jacket, protected by a removable Brodart sleeve, is bright, shiny, and features a haunting, full-color painting by Alberto Barrera of several UH-1 Huey helicopters aloft on a mission. No chips. No creases. No owner's name or bookplate. Pages are clean and crisp. Bound in the original black boards with black cloth spine, lettered in gold. Sharp corners. The author was a sergeant in the Special Forces in Vietnam. This is his first novel. Jacket praise from Dale A. Dye (author of PLATOON), Robert B. Parker, Oliver Stone (director of PLATOON), and Harry Crews. From the Dust Jacket: "SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL is among the most compelling works of fiction to come out of the Vietnam War, an antiwar novel completely lacking in antiwar posturing. Anderson describes a bloodletting without redemption or hope of recovery, and portrays a hero irrevocably changed by war, and doomed to survive it. The power of the writing and the authenticity of the voice will keep the reader turning the pages right through an apocalyptic ending that may prove the most terrifying bit of nihilism in any American war novel. In Kent Anderson, the Vietnam War has finally found its novelist.". First Edition (so stated). Hard Cover. Near Fine (remainder mark)/VG++ Jacket (price clipped). Illus. by Barrera, Alberto (jacket painting). 8vo. 350pp..
