The complete two volumes of his Tableau de La Litterature au Moyen Age and the first two volumes only (of the original 4 volumes) of Tableau de La Litterature au XVIII Siecle. In the original French. Abel-Francois Villemain was a French politician and writer. He wrote several academic books including one on Oliver Cromwell. The first set of this book is his analysis andportrayal of literature in the Middle Ages. The second is his reflections on eighteenth century literature. Condition: In uniform quarter morocco bindings with cloth covered boards. Externally, generally smart with heavy rubbing to the paper covered boards, particularly to the extremities. Some minor rubbing to the joints also. Loss to the head of spine to volume II of Moyen Age. Prior owner's signature to recto of front pastedown to Moyen Age, in addition to a stamp to the half title page 'J A H Reiziger Suriname'. The same stamp is to the half title page of the second volumeas well as the title pages ofboth volumes of Tableau de la litterature auXVIII siecle. Bookseller's label to the front pastedown of the firstvolume ofXVIII Siecle, J C Schroder. Internally, all volumes are firmly bound. Some cockling to pages of all volumes due to damp staining.
