About This Item

This is a scarce, original issue of the monthly publication "TAC MAGAZINE" - A Magazine of Theatre, Film, Radio, Music, Dance from June, 1939. Volume 1, No. 11. The magazine was a journal of the performing arts with an anti-fascist emphasis, published by the Theatre Arts Committee (TAC) in New York. Articles in this issue include "Wasteland of the Theatre," "Ernest Toller," "The Negro Builds His Theatre," "Is This Comedy?," "Hollywood Bites the Dog" and more - please see the photos for the complete list. There are photographs, illustrations and advertisements throughout.

Featured in this issue is "The 2nd Annual Village Fair" to benefit Spanish refugees. The Fair was overseen by poet DOROTHY PARKER and sponsored by notables such as Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt, Rockwell Kent, Orson Welles, Sherwood Anderson, and more. The Fair is featured on the front cover with a 1/2 page illustrated advertisement for it at the back. There is also a "Bill of Fair" section at the back ("Being a few notes on what to see, and what not to see, when you visit Flushing"); exhibits include "THE AMAZONS - Sucker Bait. A bevy of overworked chorus girls posture wearily with spears, coyly expose half a bosom apiece to the audience"..."CRYSTAL PALACE - A corny cavalcade of the strip tease through the ages from Little Egypt to Rosita Royce"...CUBAN VILLAGE - More flesh. Muscle dancing and the bumps glorified with tom toms, masked medicine men, a sacrificial altar, and similar mumbo jumbo"...and more - please see the photos for the complete list of exhibits.

Condition:
There is a thin, light stain line near the top-left corner of the front cover; some very light soiling on the back cover. The issue is tightly bound - both covers are firmly attached and there are no loose pages. Nice interior - the pages are clean with only a few small, very light stains on page 9. Overall the magazine is in Very Good condition.
