New York: Tudor, 1933. Book. Illus. by 32 plates by Harry Clarke, 8 of them color and tipped-in. Very Good. Hardcover. First Thus. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Original black cloth with only a hint of edgewear, paper illustration and title by Clarke on the front board. Gilt has worn off on the spine as on all copies of this edition. Black endpapers and top edges. Protected in a clear , mylar sleeve. Unusually, the text block of this copy is not browned or toned as it is in most copies. Several outer page edges are uncut, so at least some of this copy is UNREAD! .

Synopsis

Tales of Mystery and Imagination , stories by American author Edgar Allan Poe have been compiled by Padraic Colum into a thrilling collection focused on Poe’s suspenseful stories. The first edition compiled by Padraic Colum was published in 1908 by Geoffrey Newnes Ltd. and includes an introduction by Colum explaining his decision to exclude Poe’s poems, comedies, and essays from the collection. A later 1919 edition, published by George G. Harrap & Co., includes 24 full-page black and white plates by famous illustrator Harry Clarke. An album by The Alan Parsons Project was named after the short story compilation and contains several songs based on the tales included.
