Black cloth spine with gilt lettering/decorations and pink/green decorated paper over boards. xxv, 95pp; pp. 99-263. Numerous illustrations. Very good. Faintest of edgewear (mainly spine head/tails); lacks slipcase. A tight and nice copy of this early LEC production, a French fiction originally published in 1872. The ninth title in the LEC's first series, with colophon at rear of second volume citing 1500 numbered copies (this #1240) signed boldly by illustrator Dwiggins. NEWMAN 9.
