n.p.: Claire Ceunot, 2002. Unique. Hardcover. Fine. Claire Cuenot. Signed by the artist/poet. Copy 1/1. Mysterious figures in shades of brown populate Claire Cuenot's Tension d'ebene, and are a recurring theme in her work. Cuenot is a French artist and poet who has created several unique artists' books in addition to her paintings, drawings, and sculpture. Christine Giard has been studying and teaching bookbinding for over 35 years. In bookbinding, Giard found the perfect combination of her interests and talents. She immerses herself completely in the combination of the precision required in binding structures of all kinds, the attributes of the materials involved, the freedom to choose or create the materials she uses to realize her designs, and the opportunities to never, ever stop learning. Her passion and creativity are evident in her bindings. Giard's design aesthetic leans toward minimalism, but her use of unexpected techniques and materials create a tightly controlled tension that makes her work vibrate with energy. Giard has studied with many renowned bookbinding artists, including: Micheline de Bellefroid, Michel Richard, Hugo Peller, Edwin Heim, Vladimir Tchekeroul, Sün Evrard, Hélène Jolis, Edgard Claes, and Anne Goy. Her work can be found in public and private collections all over Europe and the United States, including Koninklijke Bibliotheek (National Library of the Netherlands) and The Morgan Library. Full cream box calf with blind tooling and straw marquetry inlays. Titled in black foil. Quarter leather clamshell box. Bound by Christine Giard in 2006. 14cm x 12.4cm.

New York: Henry Holt and Company, 1923. First edition, first printing. Hardcover. J. J. Lankes. This is a jacketed and inscribed first trade edition, first printing of the book that won Robert Frost his first Pulitzer Prize. Frost inked this copy in eight lines on the front free endpaper recto with the final five-line stanza of the poem Our Singing Strength (printed at p.110): Well, something for a snowstorm to have shown | The countrys singing strength thus brought together, | That through repressed and moody with the weather, | Was none the less there ready to be freed | And sing the wild flowers up from root and seed. | Robert Frost | For | John Stuart Groves. The sole previous ownership mark we find in the book is the small, illustrated Morocco bookplate of JOHN STUART GROVES affixed to the front pastedown. Groves (1881-1958) was an accomplished Delaware bibliophile. On 1 January 1933 Frost wrote Dear Mr. Groves: I shall be glad to write my name in your copies of my books. I have a warm place in… Read More

New York, Grove Press, 2022, trade paperback, 272 pp, Advance Uncorrected Proof (ARC), New. Straight, tight and clean with no wear or markings in bright, pictorial card covers, no dustjacket as issued. The pieces in this collection, written between 1956 and 1961 and including short fiction, a radio play, and a stunning early novel, offer startling insights into Cohens imagination and creative process. Trumansburg, NY: Out of Step Press. Fine with no dust jacket. 2016. Numbered Edition; First Printing. Pamphlet. The author's non-linear poem about the billeting of soldiers in civilian homes in wartime. Copy 89 of a limited edition of 250. Folded into the form of a letter, the work was letterpress printed in wraps of handmade "combat paper" made from military uniforms. The author says: "Some time ago-maybe a year, maybe two? I had a conversation with some of my Combat Paper brothers (well, the kids call them their combat paper uncles, so it follows…) that led to me writing the poem "Quartering." Which was informed by them, of course, and by all the rooms I'm in, and by imagining what is really required of all the caregivers I love. It's a thought experiment: if we tore down the barracks at military hospitals and offered incentives for Americans in the surrounding neighborhoods to quarter injured service members, what would the honest instructions… Read More
