New York, N.Y.: John W. Lovell Oxford Edition tan or ochre with black decorations. Front and back hinges are cracked and the front hinge has been repaired. The book is not dated, but the new preface is 1831, and there's a gift inscription on the decorated endpapers dated 1899. Pages are browning and somwhat brittle. The book has wear at the extremities and the tips are bumped and starting to fray with the board exposed at one corner. The bottom of the spine has a tiny tear and light wear.. Reprint. Hard Cover. Fair/No DJ. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Overall in GOOD condition. Jane Porter was a Scottish novelist. Her novel Thaddeus of Warsaw (1803) is one of the earliest examples of the historical novel, and it went through a dozen editions. Based on eye-witness accounts from Polish refugees of the doomed independence struggle of the 1790s, the book was praised by the great Polish patriot Kosciusko. . Full Cloth. Thin crack between pages 280 and 281. a few occasional light brown spots. Previous owner's name in pencil on the yellow right front flyleaf. A good or better copy.
