About This Item

Norfolk, CT: New Directions, 1941. First Printing. Hardcover. Very good/good. First printing in the New Classics series, small 8vo, publisher's maroon cloth, in dust jacket NOT designed by Lustig, and advertising titles from 1941 on rear panel; this is the first issue jacket; those designed by Lustig came out several years later. Book is very good, some tanning to endpapers, jacket is good with general light edgewear and general surface soil, spine somewhat tanned and darkened, light soil and mottling to rear panel of jacket. Despite not having the Lustig jacket that makes these New Classics so lovely and desirable, this earlier version is quite a bit rarer in jacket.

Synopsis

Three Lives (1909) was Gertrude Stein's first published work. The book is separated into three stories, "The Good Anna," "Melanctha," and "The Gentle Lena. " The three stories are independent of each other, but all are set in the fictional town of Bridgepoint.
