About This Item

London: George Allen and Unwin, 1948. First Edition. Octavo. 20cm. Publisher's vivid orange cloth titled in black to spine and front board. Dustjacket. Light inoffensive bumping to spine ends, an exceptionally bright, clean copy, in a strong, attractive dustjacket with some light toning to the spine panel. The verso of the printed dustjacket is a WW2 Ministry of Defense map of Denmark, a not unusual but still delightful aspect of post-war London publishing. Internally clean, with bookplate of Nina Colman to front pastedown. Top edge stained orange. An extremely attractive copy of three of apek's notable novels, translated for English speaking audiences. The word genius was used frequently by apek's contemporary admirers, and perhaps unusually remains applicable to the intensely observant and short lived author of "R.U.R.", the groundbreaking work that gave us the word "Robot.
